The two Crime Solvers Coordinators are sworn Police Detectives whose primary responsibility is overseeing the operations of the Crime Solvers Unit. They act as liaisons between the police department, the media and the civilian board of directors.

The coordinators respond to crime scenes, gather information and then release the crime information to the media, soliciting tipsters to call in with information to solve the crime. The coordinator’s other responsibilities are to assure anonymity of the tipsters by strict adherence to the laws governed by the Code of Virginia. They assign the tips to law enforcement for follow-up, maintain the integrity of the tip files, and compile quarterly statistical reports as well as statistical reports to Crime Stoppers International and Southeastern Crime Stoppers. Other duties include, making recommendations to the Board of Directors, preparation of crime bulletins, provide training, and promote the program.
