POLICE SEEK BANK ROBBER

Virginia Beach Police are investigating a robbery that occurred on Wednesday, April 18, 2007 at 3:10 p.m. at the Centura Bank located in the 4800 block of Virginia Beach Blvd.

The preliminary information indicates that a black male suspect entered the bank and displayed a handgun. He demanded money from a bank teller, and upon receiving an undisclosed amount of money, was last seen leaving the scene in a white Kia four-door passenger vehicle westbound on Virginia Beach Blvd. It was discovered that approximately one hour prior to the robbery, a white female entered the bank, looked around, and left the bank. She was seen getting into a white Kia four-door vehicle that matched the description of the suspect vehicle.

Investigators located the suspect vehicle at approximately 7:00 p.m. at the residence of Cynthia Rivera, 22, of the 500 block of Treetop Lane. Ms. Rivera was taken into custody and was charged with her involvement in the robbery. She was charged with Armed Robbery, Use of a Firearm in the Commission of a Felony, and Conspiracy to Commit a Felony. She was transported to the Virginia Beach Correctional Center where she was held without bond.

Police are seeking the public’s assistance in locating the male bank robbery suspect. He is described as a black male in his mid 20’s, 5’5”-5’6”tall, 140-160 pounds, wearing a black baseball cap with the letters “NY” on the front, and a dark colored sweatshirt. He was armed with a handgun.
