Cold Case Homicide

On July 14, 1993, at 10:10 p.m., Virginia Beach Police responded to a shooting in the 3700 block of Mainsail Court, located in the Twin Canal section of the city.

When officers arrived on the scene, they found a 19 year old male suffering from a gunshot wound to the head. The victim was transported to a local trauma center, where a short time later he was pronounced dead. The victim was identified as Dietrich Mason, 19, of the 3700 block of Whitney Court, Virginia Beach.

The investigation revealed that the victim was confronted by two black males; one of the suspects fired a handgun at the victim, striking him in the head. The suspects were last seen running from the area and getting into a dark colored vehicle, possibly a Cadillac Seville or El Dorado with temporary tags. The vehicle was occupied by one or two other black males and was last seen traveling southbound on Lynnhaven Parkway.
