ARSON DEATH

On Wednesday, September 24, 2003, at approximately 3:42 a.m. Virginia Beach Police, Fire and Rescue responded to a house in the 800 block of Hampstead Court in the Weblin Place section of the city.

The investigation revealed that the mother and son went to bed at approximately 10pm, around 3:30 a.m. the mother awoke to the smell of smoke. The fire was overtaking the home while Ms. Wilson attempted to locate her son. She soon became overcome with the fire and had to leave the residence to get help. Firefighters located Jonathan deceased in his bedroom. Ms. Wilson suffered severe burns and was transported to an area hospital where she was hospitalized.

Fire investigators have determined that the fire was intentionally set.
