Cold Case Homicide

On Tuesday, April 18, 1995, at approximately 9:30 p.m., Virginia Beach Police responded to a report from a citizen who called to say he had discovered what he thought was a human skeleton. Apparently the citizen had been fishing in a lake adjacent to the Owls Creek Golf Course when he saw the remains near the bank of the lake. Officers responded to the scene and located the skeleton which they believed to be that of a human partially covered by leaves and branches.

The medical examiner responded to the scene and made a cursory examination of the remains and determined them to be human. Further examination by the Medical Examiner's Office in Norfolk will be needed to determine the age, sex, and race of the victim, as well as how long the remains had been at this location.

A botanist from Old Dominion University was called to the scene to assist in determining how long the body may have been in this location.
