Unsolved Homicide
On Friday, August 19, 1983 the bodies of Joan Zwingman and Christine Pilczak were recovered by the Coast Guard after being reported by Pilot Boat operators as floating in the Chesapeake Bay. Investigators were able to determine that both victims traveled from New Jersey to Virginia Beach to attend a convention related to their employment. The victims were seen the night before, August 18, 1983 at 7 pm.
Neither women were wearing clothing appropriate for swimming. They had both sustained injuries prior to their death. The bodies were transported to the Medical Examiner's Office where the cause of death was determined to be drowning.
Joan Zwingman was a 26 year old white female who had green eyes and long brown hair. She was 5' 6" tall and weighed 141 pounds. Joan had a large smile.
Christine Pilczak was a 26 year old white female who had blue/green eyes and blonde hair. She was 5' 4" tall and weighed 133 pounds.
