UNSOLVED HOMICIDE

On Monday June 28, 2004 at 7:56 a. m., Police, Fire and Paramedics responded to the 1100 block of Newcombe Road for a reported gunshot wound.

Upon arrival, officers discovered a man lying in the front yard of a residence suffering from a gunshot wound. The man informed the officers that two other family members had been shot inside the residence.

The officers entered the residence and discovered an adult female and a small child dead of an apparent gunshot wound.

While checking on the welfare of the victims, the officers also discovered a fire in the residence. The fire department responded and extinguished the fire.

The wounded man was transported ported to a nearby hospital and treated.

The deceased were identified as Lois Schmidt, 29 and her son Jonathan Vetrano, 7 of the 1100 block of Newcombe Road.

Three family pets were discovered in the home. A dog died as a result of an apparent gunshot wound. The second dog suffered a gunshot wound and was transported to a local veterinary hospital for treatment. The third dog was uninjured.
